Happy New Year! As we begin 2017 we are approaching the end of the 2 nd 9 weeks of
school. It is hard to believe that the school year is almost half way over. Please
remember, as the weather begins to get colder and flu and cold season continues that we
have the correct phone number in the office in case we need to contact you. We also ask
that parents pay attention to students who are feeling ill. In order to keep the students
and staff well, please adhere to the guidelines for keeping them at home. They must be
fever free and no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Our Love our School Bingo Night is scheduled for February 24 th . We hope to have a
bigger auction this year and are asking anyone who can help gather bingo and auction
items to please contact the school. If you are able to help collect Bingo items please let
PTO know. As always, we appreciate your support.
This month our HERO habit is Habit #4 “Think Win-Win”. This is the belief that it’s not
me or you – it is both of us. There is enough good things for everyone; it is an abundant
way of thinking. Think Win-Win is being happy for others when good things happen to
them. As a parent, not everything is negotiable, but if you go into discussions with your
child with a win-win mindset, you’ll find a lot less resistance. When students have a
Think Win-Win attitude they encourage others, solve conflicts, are considerate and are
bucket fillers. Encourage your children to practice Habit #4.
During the month of January students will be taking mid-year benchmarks in both
reading and math. Benchmarks are not considered as evaluative assessments and
students are NOT graded on them. Benchmarks allow teachers to take a temperature
check of what students have learned and what they need remediated on. This piece of
data is imperative as teachers plan instruction for the remainder of the year. We do not
want students stressed or worried about benchmarks, we want to know what they know.
If you have not signed up for our school text line and would like to, please text @e5cfd
to 81010. Weekly texts will be sent out with announcements, etc. I will also continue to
send weekly reminders via our School Reach phone system. If you are not receiving
these calls, please contact the school to make sure that we have the correct number. This
is how you will receive information on school delays and cancellation for weather as well
as important reminders.
This year Hiddenite Elementary will again be hosting a Red Cross Blood Mobile on
Thursday, January 19 th from 2:00-6:30. We ask that as many people as possible join us
on the 19 th to give blood. This may be your opportunity to save a life.
It is very important that students continue to read each night. I ask that you continue to
talk to students about what they are reading. Research shows that when students talk
about what they read, their comprehension grows, as does their love for reading.
Blessing for a wonderful and prosperous 2017!
